Hi Girls, well today I depart destination no. 8 – Venice. Oh girls this city is just magical. I am in love with it. In fact not since Paris have I felt this way about a place. I’m sure those of you that have visited here would agree.
When I landed in Venice I grabbed the boat to my stop near the Airbnb. The host was there to great me at the stop and walked me to the place. Ok girls – this place was one of the best I’ve stayed at. It’s on the canal, yes literally on it with a balcony where the boats and gondolas ride past. I was dying! I went for a walk even though i was so tired (had been up since 3am!). Well my tiredness slipped away as I discovered the maze that is Venice. I stopped at Rialto bridge and had a bite to eat on the water… I remember thinking “I’m here! I’m in Venice”.
As soon as I went through the arches and saw it I literally had goosebumps all over. Thankfully I had my sunglasses on as I’m sure a few tears ran down my face.
I walked for hours. Happily getting lost. Had another amazing meal – pasta of course – right on the grand canal. I’m trying to describe what I felt – it’s just so hard! The weather was great – hot but not too bad. Also it wasn’t too busy. I bought a pair of sandals and the shop assistant told me I’ve come at a good time of year. Nice weather and not too many people.
So my mum and friends had been telling me take a gondola ride. I was really apprehensive. Actually this was the one time i felt conscious of being solo. I felt embarrassed to take a ride on my own. So yesterday as I walked past all the gondolas i thought – why not?! I can’t come here and not do it. Especially as I’ve watched them go past my balcony so many times. So girls – I hopped on that gondola and all my apprehension drifted away. My gondolier was very funny and made the ride so much fun. Maybe he took pity on me for being on my own.. LOL! I’m so glad i did it – its a lovely way to see Venice. And if any of you come here on your own – do it!
Now I’m always conscious that I write too much, but a few of you encouraged me in my last post to write as much as I like! thanks girls. I like having to report back to you all after each destination and to get all your comments. Really does make this adventure special with this group of girls along with me.
Thank you all!
Ok I better get going – onto destination no. 9 – Lake Como. I’m driving there (3 hours) I will be there for a week. I have friends from London staying with me for a few days which will be great. Although I must stay I really do love being on my own. It’s amazing how much you learn about yourself, and how resilient and resourceful one can be!
